Child abuse expert says autopsy injuries in Bliss case were not accidental

Resmiye Oral said the internal head injuries indicated inflicted trauma in her medical opinion, not an accidental cause.

A pediatrician who specializes in child abuse told jurors in Keene that the injuries uncovered during the autopsy of Luca Hudson were consistent with abusive trauma rather than an accident.

Resmiye Oral, who leads the Child Advocacy and Protection Program at Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, testified on the second day of the trial involving Annthoni Bliss. Prosecutors say Bliss is responsible for the death of the toddler and has been charged with second-degree murder.

The state alleges that the child was harmed while his mother was away at the grocery store. According to officials, she noticed the boy was ill the following day, and Luca died in a hospital three days later from a brain injury.

Oral said the internal head injuries indicated inflicted trauma in her medical opinion, not an accidental cause.
