Investigation Launched Following Discovery of Possible Human Remains

The remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for examination and potential identification.

The Keene Police Department confirmed they initiated an investigation on Friday after skeletal remains believed to be human were reported in the vicinity of Upper Court Street. The police first announced to the public around 3 p.m. via Facebook that residents could expect a heightened police presence in the area as a result of this investigation, while assuring the community that there were no safety threats involved.

In light of the findings, the remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for examination and potential identification. Earlier on Monday, the police had not commented on the developing case, and inquiries to the state's Cold Case Unit were met with a request for a formal Right to Know petition for any further information. The Sentinel has submitted such a request the same day.

Meanwhile, a representative from the Attorney General's Office confirmed that the New Hampshire Department of Justice is aware of the case but has referred all questions back to Keene police for more details.
