A juvenile is behind bars after Brattleboro Police say they made an arrest connected to two drive-by shootings that rattled the same Chestnut Street neighborhood in less than a week.

The first round of gunfire was reported just before 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, when police were called to Chestnut Street for shots fired. Officers arrived to find shell casings scattered in the roadway. No one was hurt.

Then, just three days later, more gunfire erupted in the same area. Police say they responded around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, and once again found shell casings in the road. Again, no injuries were reported.

After the shootings, police released photos of a vehicle that may be connected to the case: a dark-colored 2016 to 2018 Hyundai Elantra with New Hampshire plates.

Then came the arrest. Police say just after 3:30 Thursday afternoon, officers boarded a MOOver bus and took a juvenile into custody. According to a Brattleboro Police press release, officers seized a pistol from the minor.

The juvenile was held without bail overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Police say they still want to speak with the owner of the Hyundai Elantra.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Amy Fletcher at the Brattleboro Police Department or call the tip line at 802-251-8188.
