Keene Mr. G’s Liquidation Center set to shut its doors

A notice about the closure directed customers to the company’s other stores in North Walpole and Windsor, Vt.

The Keene branch of Mr. G’s Liquidation Center at 371 West St. is winding down operations, owner Dave Gorham said Monday. The store will continue selling off remaining merchandise for the next few weeks, although no final closing date has been set. During that period, its hours will be trimmed to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Gorham said the decision was driven by persistent staffing shortages. He said the company has not been able to hire and keep enough workers to operate the location, so employees from other stores and the distribution center are being used to help temporarily.

The Walpole-based chain launched the Keene store about seven or eight years ago, Gorham said, and he added that labor issues have not been a problem for the business during its 40 years of operation until now. A Facebook notice about the closure also directed customers to the company’s other stores in North Walpole and Windsor, Vt.

The Keene shop carries groceries, office supplies, clothing, health and beauty items, and other discounted goods.
