A 51-year-old man was injured Saturday after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Monadnock Highway, also known as Route 12, according to Police Chief Joseph Gonsalves. Authorities said the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The collision occurred just north of the Cheshire Fairgrounds. Swanzey police and fire crews, along with N.H. State Police, were sent to the scene.
Gonsalves said video reviewed by investigators indicated the man ran into the path of the truck. He said the driver attempted to avoid the crash by steering away but did not have enough time to stop the impact.
The man was first transported by ambulance to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene and later moved to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Gonsalves said the injuries were mainly internal. As of Monday afternoon, he did not have an update on the man’s condition and said the man’s hometown was not being released.
