In a response, the company said it had taken steps to prevent a repeat and said it remains committed to providing care in the Keene area.
A Keene woman says a routine visit for an asthma attack turned into a frightening ordeal when she was still inside a ConvenientMD exam room after the clinic shut down for the night, leading her to call 911 for help.
Tia Chandler said the incident happened around 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 24, after a staff member gave her a steroid shot and told her someone would return shortly. Instead, she said the clinic closed and employees left while she was still waiting alone.
According to Chandler, she first realized something was wrong when no one came back. She said she called out, then went toward the front desk, assuming only a small crew was still working and cleaning. When she found the area empty, she became alarmed and texted her husband to say she had been locked in and needed police assistance. She also said setting off an alarm while trying to leave added to the confusion.
Keene police confirmed they responded to the scene.
Chandler said the experience was startling and unlike anything she expected, adding that around 8:10 p.m. she could not believe she was actually trapped inside a medical office. She said she is unlikely to use the clinic again, even though her family has relied on it before.
ConvenientMD said it regrets what happened and called the situation unacceptable. In a response, the company said it had taken steps to prevent a repeat and said it remains committed to providing care in the Keene area. The practice manager also apologized to the patient, according to the company.
Chandler said she came forward in hopes that no one else has to go through a similar experience.
