Once requests are submitted, the Secretary of State’s office sets the recount schedule.
Candidates in five New Hampshire counties had formally asked for ballot recounts by Thursday afternoon after Tuesday’s election, according to the N.H. Secretary of State’s office. The requests came from Carroll, Grafton, Merrimack, Rockingham and Strafford counties, with additional filings still possible before the 5 p.m. Friday deadline.
The recounts being pursued involve N.H. House races in Carroll District 8, Grafton District 1, Merrimack Districts 5 and 26, Rockingham Districts 13, 14 and 25, and Strafford District 1.
Once requests are submitted, the Secretary of State’s office sets the recount schedule. Any outcome can later be appealed to the Ballot Law Commission.
Interest in recounts has not been unusual this year. After the Sept. 8 New Hampshire primary, five recounts were completed, and none altered the original winner.
