Preliminary findings suggest operator error may have played a role.
Kevin Parenteau, 55, was injured Saturday morning after being ejected from an ATV at a private sand pit off Appleton Road in New Ipswich. New Hampshire Fish and Game said the vehicle went airborne, landed awkwardly, and threw him from the machine.
The crash was reported to New Hampshire State Police Dispatch at about 10:15 a.m. Emergency crews from New Ipswich, including firefighters and police, joined Souhegan Valley Ambulance, Peterborough Ambulance and a New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officer at the scene.
Officials said Parenteau had been riding with two other people when the incident happened. He suffered significant injuries, and investigators said the case is still open. Preliminary findings suggest operator error may have played a role.
Following the crash, Fish and Game reminded ATV and other off-highway vehicle riders to use helmets and to operate only within their skill level.
