Balint, who spent years leading the Vermont Senate before moving to Washington, has become one of the most outspoken opponents of President Trump in the U.S. House.
U.S. Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., won another term in Congress on Tuesday night after the Associated Press projected the race before 8 p.m. The Brattleboro Democrat defeated Republican Gerald Malloy, who was running for congressional office for the third time.
Balint, who spent years leading the Vermont Senate before moving to Washington, has become one of the most outspoken opponents of President Trump in the U.S. House. First elected in 2022, she is Vermont’s first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress.
After her win, Balint said she was grateful for the confidence voters placed in her and said she intends to keep pressing for lower costs, stronger protections for personal freedoms, and more accountability from the Trump administration. She also said her office will continue working to bring federal money into Vermont and help residents dealing with federal agencies.
Balint also used her statement to thank people across Vermont who ran for office this year, saying that stepping forward to serve takes courage and strengthens democracy.
In Congress, Balint serves as Vice Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee and sits on the House Budget Committee. She also leads the Congressional Progressive Caucus’ Ending Corporate Greed Task Force and co-chairs the Congressional Equality Caucus.
