ICE Revises Claim About South Burlington Raid Incident

Federal immigration officials have revised their account of a significant event related to the recent raid at a residence in South Burlington.

Federal immigration officials have revised their account of a significant event related to the recent raid at a residence in South Burlington. New court documents indicate that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement no longer asserts that a man they previously identified as the driver of a vehicle involved in the operation was actually behind the wheel.

Colton Riley, a deportation officer based in St. Albans, filed information in federal court stating that a newly interviewed individual claimed to have been driving the vehicle, accompanied by an 18-year-old male passenger. Consequently, he expressed doubt that Deyvi Daniel Corona-Sanchez was an occupant of the vehicle he had previously observed.

In his earlier report, Riley recounted watching a blue Toyota Camry while surveilling the Dorset Street home on March 11. He noted that the car was registered to Corona-Sanchez and was confident about having seen him enter the driver's seat. As the vehicle moved down Dorset Street, he attempted to pull it over using lights and sirens. Instead of stopping, the Camry continued driving, later colliding with several other vehicles.

Subsequently, it was reported that two men exited the vehicle on foot and sought refuge in the nearby residence, leading to a protracted standoff with multiple protestors gathered outside. ICE obtained warrants for Corona-Sanchez's arrest, related to accusations of illegal reentry into the United States. However, after forcibly entering the premises, agents did not find him there.

During the incident, three additional individuals inside the home were detained by ICE but were later released after court proceedings, with further hearings pending in immigration courts. As the situation stands, Corona-Sanchez remains at large.

The revised understanding surrounding the raid and the involved vehicle was influenced by discussions between Riley and an FBI agent who had interviewed one of those detained. This new perspective contradicts earlier statements made by the Department of Homeland Security, which had publicly linked Corona-Sanchez to the driving of the fleeing vehicle. Earlier claims asserted that he had used his vehicle aggressively toward ICE agents before fleeing into the residence, a stance now being questioned.

As of now, ICE has not issued an immediate response to the latest updates.
