Vermont House Approves $9.3 Billion State Budget

This plan marks an increase compared to the previous year and aims to support various government operations and agencies.

The Vermont House has taken a significant step by approving a state budget totaling $9.3 billion. This financial plan marks a 1.6% increase compared to the previous year and aims to support various government operations and agencies.

House budget makers indicated that several positions, which were supported by federal funding in the past, have been included in this budget. However, concerns were raised about future financial challenges, with estimates projecting the state could face losses of tens of millions of dollars. Approximately one-third of the state budget is dependent on federal funding, leading to apprehension over the sustainability of these resources.

There was an acknowledgment among lawmakers that the evolving landscape of federal financing and strategies is influencing budget considerations significantly.

Having passed in the House, the budget will now move to the Senate for further evaluation and modification. It is anticipated that the Scott administration will provide their perspective on the budget shortly, addressing any potential concerns regarding the proposed financial allocations.
