Authorities recovered the body of a man at Swanzey Lake on Friday after responders were dispatched to look for a missing person, according to a town fire official.

Swanzey Assistant Fire Chief Mick Sanchez said the response began after a caller reported meeting a friend at the lake, but that person never arrived. The scene was treated as a search operation before it shifted into a death investigation.

In a Friday afternoon email, N.H. State Police said there was no additional information available.

Along with the fire department, Swanzey police, N.H. Fish and Game and State Police Marine Patrol all took part in the response.

At the lake, crews placed caution tape near a boat ramp where a small boat was seen floating. After the body was removed, Marine Patrol officers photographed the area, including the boat, spoke with a bystander and then pulled the boat from the water.

The identity of the man has not been released because authorities are still notifying next of kin, Sanchez said.

This is a developing story.
