Brattleboro man held after alleged Main Street attack

The case stems from a report Brattleboro Police received at about noon on July 26 about someone injured in Plaza Park.

A 38-year-old Brattleboro resident was ordered held without bail after a Wednesday court appearance tied to an alleged assault on Main Street.

Angel Rosado was arraigned in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division, on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violating conditions of probation. He is already on probation for a prior aggravated assault case and, according to court records, has missed 21 court dates in the past.

The case stems from a report Brattleboro Police received at about noon on July 26 about someone injured in Plaza Park. Officers found the victim on the ground with a shirt wrapped around an arm wound and arranged transport to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

An affidavit says a witness described an argument between the two men and told police Rosado used a samurai sword to cut the victim. Investigators also reviewed downtown camera footage and noted a serious injury to the victim’s left forearm.

The victim first declined to discuss what happened with police. Later, the person gave a different account, saying the injury happened when someone struck him with a skateboard during an argument, according to the affidavit.

Police said Rosado spoke with them shortly before his arrest on Tuesday and denied being involved in any confrontation. Carolyn Conrad, his lawyer, argued that he would not be able to get the substance use treatment he needs if he remained jailed.
