Brattleboro Police Intensify Investigation Following Multiple Shooting Incidents

Police Chief Jeremy Evans emphasized the department's seriousness regarding the threats posed by gunfire in residential neighborhoods.

Following two shooting incidents that occurred on Chestnut Street within days of each other, Brattleboro police are putting considerable resources into the investigation. The first incident was reported around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, where officers found several shell casings at the scene. A subsequent shooting event took place just three days later at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, also leading police to recover additional shell casings. Fortunately, both episodes resulted in no injuries.

Police Chief Jeremy Evans emphasized the department's seriousness regarding the threats posed by gunfire in residential neighborhoods. He believes the incidents were deliberate rather than random but has not confirmed the intended target. Surveillance footage from nearby residents is being scrutinized, and authorities have requested the public's assistance in providing any additional information or video evidence related to the occurrences.

Investigators are focusing on a dark-colored vehicle thought to be linked to the shootings and have released images of it to aid in identification. Members of the community are encouraged to reach out with any leads. The department can be contacted via Det. Amy Fletcher at 802-257-7950 or through the tip line at 802-251-8188.

A local resident noted he woke to the sound of nine gunshots on Saturday morning, characterizing the gunfire as coming from a semi-automatic, fairly large caliber weapon. He observed a significant police presence in the area in response to both incidents, with streets cordoned off and officers searching for shell casings.

The investigation is ongoing, with police committed to swiftly resolving the case and ensuring public safety in the community.
