Fatal Fire in Troy Claims One Life, Leaves Another Seriously Injured

A 56-year-old man died following the incident, while a 24-year-old woman has been hospitalized with severe injuries.

A tragic fire early Tuesday morning on Morse Street in Troy resulted in one death and left another person in critical condition. Authorities have confirmed that a 56-year-old man died following the incident, while a 24-year-old woman has been hospitalized with severe injuries.

Emergency services received their first report of the fire at approximately 1:45 a.m., when a caller indicated flames had originated in the chimney and were spreading to the porch area. Just five minutes later, a second 911 call informed dispatchers that individuals were trapped inside the burning residence. Firefighters responded swiftly and managed to rescue both victims from the mobile home located at 51 Morse Street.

Following their rescue, the man was taken to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, where he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the woman was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she remains listed in critical condition.

Fire department officials noted that several family pets perished in the incident. The state Fire Marshal’s office is conducting an investigation into the fire's origin and cause, which, so far, does not appear to be suspicious. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the N.H. Chief Medical Examiner on the deceased man.

No injuries were reported among first responders, although firefighters from over ten neighboring towns, including Ashby, Dublin, and Fitzwilliam, assisted at the scene. As of Tuesday morning, members of the Troy Fire Department and state investigators continued to analyze the site and gather information about the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional insights regarding the fire to reach out to the Fire Marshal’s office.
