Gilsum Man Accused of Forging Checks from Marlborough Business

A man from Gilsum is facing felony forgery charges after an inquiry was opened linking him to fraudulent checks.

A man from Gilsum faces felony forgery charges after being linked to fraudulent check activities involving a Marlborough business, as reported by local authorities. The Marlborough Police Department initiated an inquiry on December 22, 2025, following a report of check fraud involving the account of Scrap-It, a local business situated on Route 12.

Investigators identified Eric J. Watson, age 42, as the primary suspect. Subsequently, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home on January 8, supported by personnel from the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office and the Nelson Police Department. During this operation, investigators seized several computers along with various items suspected to be used in the creation of fake checks, with no complications reported during the search.

Further evidence was gathered when a second search warrant was obtained to examine financial documents related to the case. This procedure provided additional proof that contributed to the ongoing investigation.

On April 13, a grand jury in Cheshire County returned an indictment against Watson for his alleged involvement in the forgery scheme. The financial impact of his actions has not yet been disclosed by the police department.
