The graduation ceremony at Keene State is scheduled for May 9.
Next month, Keene State College will pay tribute to Melinda Treadwell, a former president of the institution, alongside U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan during its graduation ceremony.
The college has decided to honor Treadwell with the Granite State Award, an accolade that recognizes notable accomplishments and contributions to the welfare of New Hampshire. She previously held various roles at Keene State since joining the faculty in 2000, culminating in her presidency. Her tenure was marked by a focus on student achievement and partnerships aimed at enhancing the regional workforce, with her leadership seen as particularly significant during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Donald L. Birx, the interim president, expressed pride in recognizing the impacts made by both Treadwell and Senator Hassan on the state. Treadwell's significance extends beyond the college, as she has contributed at a national level through her involvement with several educational and athletic organizations.
Senator Hassan will be honored with an honorary doctor of laws degree. Her career spans her time in the New Hampshire Senate, the U.S. Senate, and her previous role as governor of New Hampshire. During her governorship, she oversaw stable economic growth and initiated programs to support local startups, improve healthcare accessibility, and address the opioid epidemic. As a senator, her emphasis on bipartisan leadership has led to multiple achievements benefiting the constituents of New Hampshire.
