In her resignation letter submitted on a Thursday, Perrin stated that her immediate resignation was appropriate under the circumstances.
The swift departure of Julie Perrin from her role as the Brooks Memorial Library Director has prompted the town to consider the candidate who placed second in the recent hiring process. The announcement of Perrin's resignation, which was accepted by the town, occurred just weeks after her appointment was made public, succeeding Starr LaTronica who retired on April 25 after a decade of service.
In her resignation letter submitted on a Thursday, Perrin stated that her immediate resignation was appropriate under the circumstances, expressing her view that the position did not align with her professional goals. She thanked local departments for their support during her brief tenure.
The town manager, John Potter, opted not to elaborate on any potential conflicts that may have influenced Perrin's decision. He acknowledged her qualifications and experience, indicating appreciation for her acceptance of the position, while noting that she made a personal choice regarding her career path.
Before her short tenure in Brattleboro, Perrin had nearly a decade of leadership at the Jaffrey Public Library in New Hampshire, where she gained significant skills in library operations, program creation, and grant management. Her start date in Brattleboro was on May 11.
The library was closed on the day of her resignation as the town worked to restart the director search process. Potter communicated his commitment to finding a qualified replacement, and the library reopened the following day with operations continuing as normal. He emphasized the community's patience and the dedication of the library staff during this transition phase.
For the time being, Sally Cruz Nix, the town's human resources director, is taking on a temporary leadership role within the library. Potter mentioned that they had reached out to the second finalist and were awaiting her decision, with the plan to reopen the search if she declines the offer.
Select Board member Isaac Evans-Frantz remarked on the challenge of replacing LaTronica but expressed confidence in the community's ability to find a suitable candidate. Meanwhile, Margaret Atkinson, the Board of Trustees president, chose not to provide comments on the matter.
Further updates regarding the recruitment process will be provided as they arise, according to the town's announcement.
