More than 1,000 runners took part in the 48th Clarence DeMar Marathon on Sunday morning even as a strong nor’easter brought rain and wind to the course.
The event drew athletes from across the region and beyond. Many were from New Hampshire and Vermont, while others came from countries including Guatemala, the Bahamas, the United Kingdom and Canada. Some competitors were also chasing the rare goal of finishing a marathon in all 50 states.
Nic Aubert of Woodbury, Minn., was among them, and he won the full marathon. He said after finishing the DeMar Marathon that he has now completed races in 40 states and has two more planned for 2026.
The race also featured an especially unusual finisher: a dog, dressed in pajamas for warmth, crossed the line with its owner.
Results for the top finishers in the two races were:
Half marathon, 13.1 miles
Jake Velazquez, Keene — 1:12:42
Abby Levene, Dublin — 1:19:25
Full marathon, 26.2 miles
Nic Aubert, Woodbury, Minn. — 2:39:30
Anna Zilinksi, Swanzey — 2:55:09
