Hiker Rescued from Mount Monadnock Following Fall on Icy Trail

The incident occurred on the Dublin Trail where the hiker lost his footing on icy rocks, leading to injuries impacting his head and shoulder.

A 26-year-old hiker from Brighton, Massachusetts, required assistance after sustaining injuries from a fall while hiking Mount Monadnock on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred on the Dublin Trail, where the hiker, Trevor Powell, lost his footing on icy rocks, leading to injuries impacting his head and shoulder.

Emergency responders were notified shortly after 4:15 p.m. regarding the situation. Powell was accompanied by a fellow hiker, who reached out for help, which initiated a coordinated rescue effort. Teams from the New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, conservation officers, and members of the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team joined forces to assist in the recovery.

Rescue personnel successfully navigated the challenging, icy terrain to reach Powell, transporting him approximately two miles to the trailhead. The rescue operation concluded around 8:10 p.m. Upon reaching safety, Powell opted not to be taken by ambulance and decided to pursue medical care on his own.

Officials emphasized the importance of being cautious in outdoor settings, particularly during winter months when ice can linger at higher altitudes, despite rising temperatures. Hikers are advised to prepare adequately and equip themselves for icy conditions when exploring mountainous regions.
