A judge on Tuesday ended the trial of former Youth Development Center employee Jeffrey Buskey after deciding jurors had heard testimony that should not have been presented in the case.

The ruling came after an emotional morning in court, during which former resident David Meehan described abuse he says he experienced at the YDC. Meehan has spoken publicly about his allegations.
During his testimony, Meehan referred to another possible assault, prompting the court to conclude that a mistrial was necessary. Assistant Attorney General Thomas Velardi said the judge determined certain evidence had reached the jury improperly and could not be cured with instructions to disregard it. He said the case may be tried again and that prosecutors will review their next steps.
Lawyers involved in the case declined to comment further.
