KEENE, N.H. — A quiet Keene neighborhood became the scene of a major death investigation Tuesday morning after police conducting a welfare check discovered two people dead inside a home on Hurricane Road.
New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella and Keene Police Chief Steven M. Stewart announced that the investigation is now being treated as a suspicious death case.
According to officials, Keene police officers responded to the residence at approximately 11:10 a.m. on June 16, 2026, to check on the welfare of the occupants. After entering the home, officers found the bodies of two adult residents: a 70-year-old woman and her 72-year-old husband.
Authorities said both appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are currently investigating the deaths as a potential murder-suicide, though officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord.
Officials said there is no known threat to the general public at this time.
No additional information is expected to be released Tuesday evening. Authorities anticipate issuing another update after the autopsies are completed.
